Standards for Community-Based Services for Migrant Women and Girls affected by GBV

Standards for Community-Based

Display the new ACCESS Community Standards poster in your premises to show that you meet the standards for supporting migrant women* facing gender-based violence (GBV).

Migrant women face more difficulties in accessing support

Migrant women facing GBV face additional (cultural, social and political) barriers to accessing adequate support. Community-based support services, based on the respect of human rights, help to ensure access to prevention, protection and support for these women.

Standards for appropriate support for migrant women

In the framework of the ACCESS project, GAMS Belgium and its partners Médicos del mundo (Spain) and FORWARD UK (United Kingdom) have developed a charter of services offering community support to migrant women facing gender-based violence.

This poster lists seven standards that services should meet in order to offer appropriate and holistic support to migrant women facing GBV:

  1. Rights-based approach
  2. Women’s empowerment
  3. Culturally competent professionals
  4. Trained peer educators
  5. Community engagement and outreach
  6. Interpreting services & language support
  7. Referrals to appropriate organisations and services

By displaying the new community services charter in their premises, organisations state that they are meeting the standards of community support for the women involved.

The charter is available in PDF format in English, French, Dutch and Spanish.

The ACCESS project

This poster was developed within the framework of the European ACCESS project, which aims to facilitate access to prevention, protection and support for migrant women in Europe who are confronted with gender-based violence, with the support of the European Union’s ECR programme, Equal.brussels, and the PCI programme of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
