Imagine if sitting caused you pain…

For many women and girls, it does.

230 million women and girls worldwide live with the consequences of female genital mutilation.
In Belgium, 35,000 girls are affected or at risk of female genital mutilation.

Scanning this bike seat, you showed you care about them. Together with GAMS Belgium, you can help end the harm!

What is FGM?

Did you know so many girls and women are confronted with female genital mutilation? FGM, also known as female genital cutting or circumcision, is the intentional injury or alteration of the external female genitalia for non-medical reasons.

FGM is performed on young girls, leaving them with consequences that last a lifetime. From chronic pain to complications during childbirth, health problems, and a deep emotional trauma.

For many, something as simple as sitting becomes a daily reminder of the harm caused to them.

What GAMS Belgium does

At GAMS Belgium, we work directly with girls, women, families, and communities to prevent FGM before it happens, and to support those who are living with its consequences.

GAMS Belgium aims to:

  • Stop the harm before it happens

  • Support girls and women who have suffered from FGM

  • Educate communities and professionals
  • Advocate for policies that protect girls in Belgium and beyond

GAMS IN ACTION

Since 1996, GAMS has been the leading expert organisation in the fight against FGMWe work on the ground, within communities and with professionals. We advise policymakers to make real change a reality and end female genital mutilation for once and for all.

How can you help?

Our work on the ground is at risk due to the ending of several of our key funding sources in 2025. To continue our work of support and prevention, we need you.

With your donation, we can:

  • Reach families before a girl is at risk

  • Provide medical, psychological, and social support

  • Train health professionals and social workers to recognise warning signs and act early
  • Break the silence through education and awareness
