The place of gender-based violence and traumatic memory within one’s asylum procedure.
On Friday 18th November 2016, GAMS Belgium and Intact npo organised a colloquium about gender-based violence and traumatic memory within one’s route as an asylum seeker, which focused on psychological aspects. It aimed to:
- Recognise traumatic memory
- Suggest ways to assist women asylum-seekers who have undergone gender-based violence (while focussing on female genital mutilation and sexual violence).
- Estimate how mental health is taken into account in the context of asylum procedures based on gender-related violence.
- Give concrete suggestions on how to improve the consideration of mental health in the context of asylum seeking.
