Annual Report 2020
Despite the challenges, the fight against FGM continues!
The year 2020 was marked by COVID-19 all over the world. The GAMS Belgium team did not give up. We adapted our activities and carried out emergency actions to reduce the psychosocial impact of the pandemic on our beneficiaries. Find it all out in our 2020 annual report!
Building a world free of female genital mutilation
GAMS Belgium has been fighting since 1996 for the abandonment of female genital mutilation (FGM) in Belgium and elsewhere. Our activities are mainly organised in Belgium through our branches in Brussels, Liège, Namur and Flanders, but also in Senegal and internationally.
“My greatest dream would be to see the day when, finally, we will have built together a world without female genital mutilation.” - Khadidiatou Diallo, President of GAMS Belgium
Prevention, protection and support of affected people
To achieve its objectives in 2020, GAMS Belgium has remained true to its role: welcoming and raising awareness among the people affected, providing initial support, offering social, psychological, and legal assistance…
Respecting COVID-19 measures
Support for beneficiaries were quickly resumed, but other activities had to be adapted. As such, GAMS Belgium organised awareness-raising workshops, training for professionals, advocacy events… Online.
“Despite the difficult year, we remain hopeful that we can continue the fight against gender-based violence and find the necessary structural means for this fight.” - Katrien De Koster, coordinator of GAMS Belgium’s activities in Flanders
